City public schools students return to the classroom this week. The new year starts as, during the last school year, state data shows city students improved reading scores by more than 7%.
Schools had adopted the NYC Reads program, which used evidence-based curriculum to understand how students learn.
To further this initiative, city and CUNY educators are partnering with The Reading Institute to train teachers on effective strategies to teach literacy and reading comprehension.
Dr. Katie Pace Miles, a professor at Brooklyn College and president of The Reading Institute, joined "The Rush Hour" on Tuesday to talk about the program.
