Students return to New York City public schools Thursday under a major new rule: a cellphone ban. The policy prohibits unsanctioned use of smartphones and other internet-enabled devices on school grounds in grades K-12 for the entire school day.
Each school will decide how to enforce the ban. Some have already adopted technology such as the Yondr pouch, which requires students to lock their phones in front of staff at the start of the day.
The devices remain inaccessible until they are unlocked as students leave.
Yondr CEO Graham Dugoni joined NY1 anchor Shannan Ferry on “News All Day” to explain how the pouches are used in schools.
