Change may come to Long Island City.

The city’s Planning Commission approved the One LIC rezoning plan.

The plan will change the zoning of 54 blocks in the northeast section of Long Island City

The zoning change is expected to allow for the construction of nearly 15,000 apartments, about 4,300 affordable and create 3.5 million square feet of commercial space that is expected to generate over 14,000 jobs in

There are concerns it doesn't address climate change or affordable housing on one city-owned site but there are hopes the City Council addresses those concerns when it’s taken up sometime this fall

“With a citywide vacancy rate of 1.41%, a number that’s even lower in Queens, we need to make a change,” Planning Commission Chair Dan Garodnick said.
