AUSTIN, Texas — Austin Energy is expanding its at-home electric vehicle charging program to include General Motors vehicles.

The Power Partner Electric Vehicle program now covers several GM models, including the Cadillac Escalade IQ, Chevrolet Blazer EV and GMC Hummer EV.

The program helps the power grid during peak demand periods in summer. Austin Energy can temporarily slow charging speeds at home chargers during high-energy events, but drivers can override the setting anytime.

"All we're saying is 'Hey, could you delay your charging for two hours or could we throttle down the amount that you're charging your vehicle for four hours?' and that really doesn't affect them that much," said Richard Genece, Austin Energy's Vice President of Customer Energy Solutions.
