PRESCOTT, Arkansas (KTAL/KMSS) — Hamilton Haven recently completed five years of service to the community.

Hamilton Haven is an all-volunteer nonprofit that provides short-term housing to temporarily displaced people.

In late 2017, a series of fires affected Prescott, highlighting the area's lack of shelters for people who were temporarily displaced. An older house was purchased and renovated to fill that need.

Hamilton Haven Executive Director Michele Hamilton Rhodes said, “The house probably should have been torn down. The community came together to make this happen.”

Organizers call the people they serve neighbors, a term they chose intentionally.

“We want those we serve to feel like part of the community,” Rhodes said.
