SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The butter sculpture is a staple of the State Fair's annual traditions. But once the Fair is over, where does all that butter go?
The butter sculpture, the 57th in the Fair's history, is being recycled for biofuel at Noblehurst Farms in the Town of Pavilion. The sculpture was taken apart on Sept. 2, the day after the Fair ended, at the Fairgrounds.
The 800-pound sculpture will be processed in the farm's digester to create renewable energy. This process involves combining the butter with other food waste and manure to generate electricity.
"We are extremely honored to be the 'official' recycler of the New York State Fair’s butter sculpture," Jack Klapper, co-owner of Noblehurst Farms, said.
The butter used in the sculpture was supplied by O-AT-KA Milk Products
