HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) -- For the first time, Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister is speaking out to 8 On Your Side about the resignation of his chief deputy.

Anthony Collins resigned after allegations surfaced of him cheating while at the FBI National Academy.

Chronister told Investigative Reporter Brittany Muller he feels like he's been hit by a truck after Collins' wife sent screenshots with multiple allegations, ultimately leading to him stepping down.

"It is very, very humbling to be given this position,” said Collins back in April. That’s when 8 On Your Side sat down with him right after his historic promotion -- the first African American chief deputy in the department's 180-year history.
