MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A shooting overnight on Beale Street after the 901 Day events concluded left a teenage boy fighting for his life .

Memphis Mayor Paul Young said the unfortunate situation Monday night took place hours after a successful day full of celebration for 901 Day.

“Our hearts are with the young man,” said Young.

According to the Memphis Police Department, officers responded to a shots-fired call around 10:15 p.m. on Beale Street near South Main.

When officers arrived, they were approached by the mother of the victim, who informed them that her son had been shot.

MPD officers said the victim is 17 years old and was shot several times. Officers said he was shot once in the abdomen and twice in the right arm, and was in critical condition.
