WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A Wichita city council member and at least one community group are responding to a holiday weekend filled with violence.
Cure Violence Wichita takes a holistic approach to preventing gun violence in the community.
“We try to prevent retaliation. I know it, you’re angry. Let us talk you off that cliff. Let’s change your mindset and understand that there are better ways to handle this than to go and shoot up five houses,” said Senior Program Manager Kevin Harrison.
Harrison said Cure Violence doesn’t typically do work in north Wichita, where three people were killed and four others were wounded on Labor Day. But after the deadly weekend, he said it was crucial to go into the community.
