MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- An inmate who assaulted his cellmate last week is now being charged with attempted murder, according to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office.

On Aug. 27, the Shelby County Sheriff's Office said deputies found an inmate lying on the floor bleeding in a jail cell at noon at 201 Poplar.

They said medical assistance was provided, and the Memphis Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the inmate in critical condition to Regional One.

The sheriff's office said that at around 1 p.m., detectives responded to the aggravated assault to investigate the scene.

Deputies said the victim was involved in an altercation with his cellmate, Marshunn Liggins, 31, who was responsible for the assault.
