OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — A West Bloomfield woman and Hartland man are headed to trial for allegedly embezzling $900,000 from a vulnerable 87-year-old.

Shelley Letzer, 68, and Kirk Lanam, 53, had their cases bound over to the 6th Circuit Court in Oakland County on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

Barring any settlements the two will now stand trial for allegedly financially exploiting a vulnerable adult, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel stated in a news release, issued Tuesday afternoon.

Lanam and Letzer are accused of fraudulently obtaining legal power of attorney from victim in March 2024, Nessel stated. The two knew the victim to be a vulnerable or incapacitated adult with a court-appointed guardian, she said.
