CHICAGO (WGN) — Newly installed speed cameras on Chicago streets continue to receive complaints from residents across the city, and a new analysis noted a near-record surge in tickets.

A new analysis by the Chicago Sun-Times and WBEZ uncovered nearly a quarter of a million tickets issued citywide in June alone, with 186 speed cameras in operation. A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request revealed deep frustration in neighborhoods such as Edgebrook.

"To me, it’s a way to raise revenue, not the way to do it," said one Far North Side of Chicago resident, sounding off on the newly installed speed camera on the 6600 block of N. Central.
