DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - A victim of a 2023 explosion at the ADM east plant in Decatur has filed a lawsuit against the company, claiming it is at fault for the explosion that caused his injuries.
The lawsuit was filed by Kaleb Ogilvie in late August and claimed that ADM knew it was not in compliance with a federal standard for handling hazardous materials, particularly hexane gas.
Court filings from the Circuit Court of the Sixth Judicial Court in Macon County also claim that Ogilvie was not told about safety issues in the plant, while adding that ADM knew the issues could cause an explosion.
According to the lawsuit, it was ADM's "intentional decision" not to install a Lower Explosive Limit hexane sensor, and to leave doors open in the east plant to prevent vent systems from capturing
