TRUSSVILLE, Ala. (TRIBUNE) — The Trussville municipal election results were certified unanimously Tuesday, finalizing a new era of leadership for the city.
Council member Ben Short has officially been declared the winner of the mayoral race, succeeding retiring Mayor Buddy Choat, who has served since 2016. Short faced opposition from fellow council member Lisa Bright and Jefferson County Tax Collector J.T. Smallwood in a race many expected to head into a runoff. Instead, Short secured 51.8% of the vote, avoiding a runoff outright. Smallwood received 26.3% and Bright finished with 21.9%.
