SIKESTON, Mo. (KFVS) - Finding out your loved one has cancer can cause emotional strains and financial hardship. That’s why the Sikeston community is helping ease that burden for a local family.

“Romel was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma cancer at the age of 13, May of 2025,” said Correnda Daniels.

Daniels is the mother of Romel Hester, who just turned 14 on September 1. She is at St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, making her son’s chemotherapy treatment a priority--meaning work has been on hold.

“I have five children at home. I have been all over the place. Love keeping God first and keeping my head up,” Daniels said. “Being out and down from work has made things tough, but also made me stronger, knowing that I can do it.”
