VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 56-year-old North Carolina man faces charges after being accused of scamming a Volusia County woman out of $30,000, according to Sheriff Mike Chitwood.

According to a social media post by the sheriff, a 70-year-old Volusia County woman sent $60,000, including $30,000 in cash after responding to an email about a wounded military dog.

Investigators said that Cory Ray Woodall of Oxford, North Carolina, convinced the woman that she was helping a retired Army general get back to the U.S.

Woodall then is accused of using they money to purchase car, a mower and a trailer.
