CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- On Wednesday, Charlotte leaders will meet for a special meeting to talk about transit safety.
Ahead of that, Charlotte City Council members got an update on CATS security. The discussions come more than a week after a young woman was stabbed to death while riding on the light rail.
The 23-year-old's killing is top of mind for many female riders.
"If it can happen to her, it can happen to anyone," said Emma Hynek, who lives in South End. "This is something important that we should all care about."
It's not something Charlotte women are taking lightly.
"Women should feel the safety to be able to go on the transportation by themselves, and clearly her right was taken away from that," said Andi Weinberg, who lives in Charlotte.
