Massachusetts tweens may need to find another spot for jewelry and ear-piercings — Claire’s is closing six of its 17 Massachusetts stores after it filed for bankruptcy this month.
The chain is shuttering 291 store locations across the country as part of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. It will keep 830 stores open, according to Aug. 20 court documents.
Claire’s announced Aug. 20 it reached a deal with private holding company Ames Watson, and as a part of the agreement it “paused the liquidation process at a significant number of stores.”
“As we continue through our restructuring proceedings, our team has worked tirelessly to explore every option for preserving the value of the Claire’s business and brand,” said Claire’s CEO Chris Cramer.
