BELOIT, Wis. (WREX) — An agreement established last year to address firefighter shortages in South Beloit is now facing challenges. Initially, the Town of Beloit extended its fire services to South Beloit, creating nine full-time positions. However, South Beloit Mayor Tom Fitzgerald has raised concerns that the Town of Beloit has not met the staffing commitments.

On Tuesday, the Town of Beloit Board of Supervisors met to discuss the issue. Community members expressed their worries regarding the agreement's impact on safety and staffing.

"Something has to be done, something has to change. Nobody can continue to live on like this. Not just our firefighters, but the families who stand behind them," one citizen said.
