LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas (KFDA) - The Arkansas Travelers defeated the Amarillo Sod Poodles in the series opener by a score of 5-3 on Tuesday.
Despite the loss, Amarillo was the more dominant team offensively with 11 hits compared to Arkansas’ five.
Jose Fernandez was the leader of the bunch, going 3-5 at the plate and scoring two runs.
Manuel Pena, LuJames Groover and Jean Walters were right behind the shortstop, each finishing with two hits each.
On the mound, Mitch Bratt gets taxed with the loss, bringing his season record to 7-4.
In 5.0 innings, he allowed three hits for two runs and notched eight strikeouts.
Amarillo drops to 34-24 overall in the second half of the season, but still remain atop the Texas League South, now leading the next playoff eligible team by 5.5 games.
