SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Eugene-Springfield Fire may have a joint logo that is on the firefighters uniforms, but according to the president of the local Lane County firefighter union, the two cities haven’t fully merged the fire departments. So they are starting a campaign to have the fire departments run under a single governance by forming a fire district.
“Today kind of kicks off our campaign for Local 851 of moving Eugene-Springfield Fire into a fire district,” Brett Deedon, president of the Lane County Professional Fire Fighters Local 851, said.
The idea of both cities having a joint fire department started in 2007, when the three-battalion system was formed to fight fires in either city without having to worry about city lines.
