CLEVELAND, Ohio – A water main that burst on Cleveland’s West Side caused police to close a portion of the Shoreway on Tuesday, authorities said.
The break led to traffic backups, prompting the city to close the eastbound lanes from Lake Avenue to West 45th Street. The problems with the main, which is 36 inches in diameter, became apparent last Thursday, said a spokeswoman for Cleveland Water.
The break has backed up traffic in the area, causing some drivers to note on social media that it resembles a parking lot.
The department said crews are working to close additional valves in the area to help control the flow of water to the leak, a move it said would prevent disrupting services.
These valves are spread across neighborhoods and not in the immediate vicinity of where water has surf
