MURRAY – Hurricane Katrina was a tragedy for millions, especially for New Orleans residents who were displaced. Upon the 20th anniversary of that disaster, though, a local family is reflecting on how it led them to settling down to what they say has been a happy life in Murray.

Elnisha Jones and her mother, Gloria Jones, came to stay in Murray with Elnisha’s two children, Derrickka Jones and Tyson LaFrance, in September 2005 after the hurricane forced them out of their homes. They were among the 116 evacuees that were temporarily housed at Camp WOW on U.S. 641, which was owned by Woodmen of the World at the time. The family never ended up going back home.
