SHARON The Mercer County Food Bank will host a 12-hour "pack-a-thon" event on Sept. 5 to prepare for what it calls its busiest season.

The event, titled "Ready, Set, Go Orange," begins at 9 a.m. and will run until 9 p.m. It is part of Hunger Action Month.

Volunteer shifts are available throughout the day, with pre-registration required. A race featuring local mascots will kick off the event in the morning.

In addition to packing food, the food bank's network partners will be on site to highlight the connection between food assistance and other needs, such as education, housing, and counseling.

The winner of the Lady Scouts Food Fight, an annual food collection competition, will be announced at 4 p.m.
