LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Three finalists for the position of Nevada Superintendent of Public Instruction were recommended to Republican Governor Joe Lombardo by the Nevada State Board of Education on Friday.

The candidates for the position include Dr. Sylvia Mitchell, Dr. Heather Sanchez, and Dr. Victor Wakefield.

Dr. Sylvia Mitchell

Dr. Mitchell has spent 25 years in the education field. She started her career as an elementary and secondary teacher and then went on to serve as an elementary and secondary school principal, as well as a vice president of schools and superintendent twice.

"I believe we should be preparing scholars not just to graduate, but we want to prepare them to be future-ready so that they can thrive in the world today," Mitchell told the board on Friday.
