Count me among those skeptical that President Donald Trump ordered National Guard troops into Washington, D.C., because he wants to reduce crime (“ Just because it’s Trump’s idea, doesn’t mean it’s bad ‚" Ted Diadiun, Aug. 31). The reason is simple. As The Washington Post, New York Times and others have shown, very few Guard units are in D.C. neighborhoods where crime is the worst. Instead, they are mostly stationed around the National Mall, Union Station and other popular tourist destinations. They are spending their time on tasks like landscaping, picking up litter, and posing for selfies with tourists.
