LEWISTON, Maine — A coalition of Lewiston mass shooting survivors and victims' families has filed a federal lawsuit claiming that U.S. officials ignored warning signs about the shooter, Robert Card, in the weeks leading up to Oct. 25, 2023.

The lawsuit is seeking accountability from the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.S. Army, and Keller Army Community Hospital, according to a news release issued by a coalition of law firms jointly representing the 100 plaintiffs.

On Oct. 25, 2023, Card committed a mass shooting at two separate locations, a bowling alley and a bar and restaurant, killing 18 people and injuring more than a dozen. It was the deadliest mass shooting in the United States that year.
