BOWDOIN, Maine — A routine trip to the store to shop for their new home turned into a traumatic ordeal for one Midcoast couple and their dog. Now, they’re hoping their story can help change the system.

Hannah and Samuel Appie say their four-year-old dog, Ellie, was viciously attacked by another dog inside the Topsham Home Depot.

“Time was frozen to me. Like I was running to them, but it felt like I wasn’t getting any closer,” Hannah recalled.

Samuel was walking Ellie when Hannah said she went across the store to look at something. Shortly after, she heard a commotion and turned around to see that a dog named Gracie had latched onto Ellie’s jaw and wouldn’t let go.
