One of the largest fundraisers for the Barber National Institute is taking a final lap and coming to an end at Presque Isle State Park on Sept. 6.
The Barber National Institute announced in March that the Barber Beast on the Bay will be discontinued after this year's obstacle course run.
"This event started as a component to the Perry 200 event that started 12 years ago," said Tammy Roche, director of strategic communication for the Barber National Institute. "It was meant to be a one-and-done and be part of the Perry 200 celebration, and because it was so successful in the first year, here we are 12 years later."
Roche said Barber Beast on the Bay has raised more than $80,000 in 12 years and annually involves more than 1,600 participants.
