When retiring Republican U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell talks about the race to replace him , there's one name among Democrats he knows could shift the campaign in their favor: Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear.
"If I were a Republican candidate for my job, I'd be very nervous that (Andy) Beshear might decide to run for Senate," the outgoing senator said in an Aug. 28 interview in Louisville. "He's obviously an effective politician. He's managed to get elected in a deeply red state. If I were running for the future, I'd hope to run against somebody else."
