A man died after a large boulder crushed him Tuesday afternoon in a Westmoreland County quarry

The incident happened at Heidelberg Materials’ Torrance Quarry in Derry Township just before 4:30 p.m., Post-Gazette news partner KDKA-TV reported.

James Gershman, 61, of Indiana County, was working in a mine shaft when a large rock crushed him, the Westmoreland County coroner’s office reportedly said.

The man was pronounced dead about 80 minutes after the call came in. The cause and manner of death are pending an autopsy, according to KDKA.

Heidelberg Materials is a building-materials firm with over 450 locations and about 9,000 employees, according to its website.

The investigation is ongoing.
