The boy's mother will be part of a new statewide push to improve safety for people on electric bikes and scooters, especially in places where they are commonly used, like college campuses.
Last month, the boy was stopped at Howland Boulevard in Deltona when he was hit by a driver who suddenly hit the gas.
The boy survived, but suffered serious injuries and almost lost a foot. Now, AAA is launching a campaign called "Safe Streets for Small Wheels" to focus on the risks for people on e-bikes.
