MEMPHIS, Tenn. - As part of 901 Day, hundreds of people turned out for the fourth annual Unite Memphis Walk/Run at the National Civil Rights Museum. The annual event is a chance to promote unity within the city.
"A lot of times, we focus on the negative. A lot of times we just repeat the narrative," Karin Conlee, CEO for Unite Memphis, told FOX13.
Typically held on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the race moved to Labor Day in 2024. Conlee told FOX13 getting people together in one space for something positive can lead to change.
"This city is full of incredible people that are all doing great things. Yes, we have problems, but there's not any problem we have that we can't solve," said Conlee. "Keep doing good in your city. It matters. You're not alone."
