South Australia's container deposit scheme, in operation since 1977, is set to undergo significant expansion, a move that has already occurred in Queensland and has been announced in NSW.
The changes will extend the 10-cent refund to include wine and spirits glass bottles, cordial and juice containers, and larger containers up to three litres. Plain milk and medicine bottles will be excluded.
The state government has committed to a two-year rollout, meaning these new refunds won't be available until 2027.
"People have always asked the question, why aren't wine bottles and spirit bottles included in the container deposit scheme? Well now they will be," Premier Peter Malinauskas said.
