A university cheerleader was arrested and charged in connection to the death of her newborn.

University of Kentucky athlete Laken Snelling was charged with abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and concealing the birth of an infant, according to police.

She pleaded not guilty in the Fayette District Court on Tuesday.

According to an arrest citation, officers were called to her home last Wednesday after a dead newborn was found in a closet.

The citation says the infant was found wrapped in a towel inside of a black trash bag.

The 21-year-old allegedly admitted to giving birth and concealing the birth, according to Lexington police.

She posted a $100,000 bond. She was ordered to remain on house arrest at her parents' home in Tennessee.
