MASON, Ohio (WXIX) - There is a new development in the federal case against a Mason man accused of making and detonating bombs, including one found at a sports complex.
The case has been on hold for the past four months amid plea negotiations between federal prosecutors and James Phillips’ high-profile defense attorney, Scott Croswell.
On Tuesday, federal prosecutors filed an “Information” document charging Phillips with one count of “Transport of Explosive Materials,” court records show.
The felony is punishable upon conviction of up to 10 years in prison, a fine, or both.
A “Plea Agreement” was also filed, but that is not a public record at this time.
This all means Phillips has waived his right to have a grand jury review the evidence and issue an indictment and agreed to proceed
