A head coach’s life is made easier when the team’s top players are also the most willing leaders.

Third-year Columbia River coach DeWayne Patterson has both parts of that equation solved with senior captains Joey Ianello and Savion McCoy.

The running back tandem form a two-headed monster in the Rapids’ Wing-T offense, which presents an even scarier proposition for opposing defenses this season with both three-year starters fully healthy.

Ahead of his junior year, McCoy suffered an offseason injury that limited him to only a handful of games down the stretch, but he was effective when he played despite being less than 100 percent.
