The United Arab Emirates has issued a strong warning against any Israeli plans to annex parts of the occupied West Bank, labeling such actions a "red line." This statement comes amid ongoing violence in Gaza, where Israeli airstrikes have resulted in the deaths of at least 31 people, according to local hospitals. The UAE's warning raises questions about the future of the normalization agreement established under the Abraham Accords, which aimed to foster relations between Israel and several Arab nations.

Lana Nusseibeh, the UAE's Assistant Minister for Political Affairs, emphasized that annexation would severely undermine the spirit of the Abraham Accords. She stated, "It would alter the widely shared consensus on what the trajectory of this conflict should be – two states living side by side in peace, prosperity, and security." The UAE was a key player in the 2020 accords, which marked a significant shift in Arab-Israeli relations.

As Israel continues its military operations in Gaza, protests have erupted across the country. Demonstrators are voicing their opposition to the mobilization of 60,000 reservists for the ongoing military campaign. Many protesters accuse Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of using the conflict for political gain rather than pursuing a ceasefire with Hamas, the militant group that controls Gaza. "We have to take an extreme action so that someone will remember. There’s no such thing as a state abandoning its citizens," said protester Yael Kuperman.

The UAE's warning is particularly notable as it coincides with the fifth anniversary of the Abraham Accords. While the UAE has previously criticized Israel's actions in Gaza and the West Bank, this latest statement marks a significant escalation in its rhetoric. Nusseibeh reiterated that the UAE views the accords as a means to support the Palestinian people's aspirations for statehood.

The Israeli government, led by Netanyahu, has expressed intentions to consider various annexation options, including the Jordan Valley. This area is strategically important and has been a focal point of discussions among Israeli officials. However, the annexation proposals have faced opposition from various quarters, including within the Israeli government itself.

The ongoing conflict has exacerbated humanitarian conditions in Gaza, where airstrikes have led to significant civilian casualties. The Gaza Health Ministry reported that the death toll from the conflict has reached over 63,000 Palestinians since the war began, with many casualties occurring among those seeking humanitarian aid. The situation has prompted international calls for action, with organizations highlighting the dire humanitarian crisis unfolding in the region.

As tensions rise, the Gulf Cooperation Council also issued a statement condemning the annexation proposals, calling them "dangerous." The international community largely supports the idea of a two-state solution, which many believe is jeopardized by Israel's potential annexation of West Bank territories. The UAE's warning serves as a reminder of the fragile nature of regional relations and the ongoing struggle for peace in the area.
