John Swinney has said the SNP Government will end its self-imposed ban on taxpayers' cash being awarded to any firm involved in the manufacture of "munitions". ‌

But the First Minister warned "any defence company seeking support from the Scottish Government will have to demonstrate that its products are not involved militarily with Israel". ‌

And he told MSPs today the end of the munitions spending ban reflects the need to "recognise the reality of the importance of defence" given the on-going invasion of Ukraine. ‌

The change in position comes after Nationalist ministers were earlier this year accused of "student union politics" after a Government agency refused to invest in a specialist skills centre to train the next generation of Scottish shipbuilders .
