One new residential unit at a time.

City council endorsed a staff report Tuesday, allowing the city to begin selling its surplus property that will ultimately net Sault Ste. Marie additional housing units.

The first round will see the sale of three properties which encourage infill residential development within the city’s urban settlement area.

The sale of the property, in some cases, may be at no or low cost to developers who want to build new housing – providing that conditions are met within reasonable time frames and new residential development is created.

In other words, city council wants to see the creation of new housing units, in part to achieve the provincial housing target set on the municipality.
