CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — Drivers with peeling or hard-to-read license plates will soon have the chance to replace them for free at an upcoming community event in Centre County.

State Rep. Paul Takac announced he will host a License Plate Restoration event from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at the Pennsylvania Military Museum, 51 Boal Ave., in Boalsburg.

The event is being held in partnership with the State College Police Department, which will assist in verifying plate damage and processing the necessary forms.

Officials said damaged or illegible plates can lead to citations, and the event provides a no-cost way for residents to stay in compliance.
