The family of Virginia Giuffre, among the most outspoken victims of Jeffrey Epstein who died by suicide earlier this year, called out lawmakers blocking a probe into the disgraced financier Wednesday during an unprecedent bi-partisan press conference in Washington, D.C.

“This is about justice against the rich and powerful who have stolen something from these women and many children: their freedom,” said Sky Roberts, Giuffre’s brother, speaking to well over 100 attendees at the presser at the Capitol steps. “The freedom to live their life without mental and physical scars that have been inflicted upon them by those who thought they were untouchable.”

Giuffre has claimed that she was sex trafficked by Epstein, who died in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges, to Britain’s Prince Andrew, born Andrew Edward. She died by suicide in April, just weeks after a social media post in which she claimed she was hit by a bus and given four days to live.

Her brother Roberts has been a strong supporter of Giuffre’s efforts to compel the United States government to release all files it holds on Epstein, and for the Justice Department to bring any of Epstein’s co-conspirators to justice.

And on Wednesday, he spoke in full support of a bi-partisan measure to force the DOJ to release all of its files on Epstein, and called out those who continue to stand in its way.

“If you vote no, your stance will be clear: you will be choosing to stand on the side of the rich and powerful, allowing money to buy your way out of the consequences,” Roberts said.

“But here's my one ask: look these survivors in the eye and tell them why! Then, look the people of the United States in the eye and tell them why. And then, when you're alone, look yourself in the mirror and ask yourself why.”

That bi-partisan measure comes in the form of what’s known as a discharge petition, a legislative tool to force a vote on a particular proposal – in this case, forcing the DOJ to release its files on Epstein. It was introduced by Reps. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Ro Khanna (D-CA), and requires 218 signatures to pass.

“This is about ensuring that the future we leave behind isn't one where the powerful can hide behind their wealth, their influence, and their money to evade justice,” Roberts said.

“I plea to you, whether you're a dad, a mom, a brother or a sister, look your young ones in the face, look them in the eye and tell them you didn't stand against the very people who raped, molested and preyed upon children and young women. Tell them you were willing to negotiate a deal.”
