As President Donald Trump continues to threaten federal military action in Chicago, Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D-IL) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) traded attacks in public.

Pritzker, the billionaire heir of the Hyatt hotel fortune and a progressive politician in his second term as governor, has taken the gloves off in recent speeches, warning the president to back off his threats, attacking Trump's "slipping mental faculties," and telling him, "do not come" to Chicago.

Cruz took a swipe at Pritzker's crime policies, as well as his weight, on a Wednesday interview on the "Chris Salcedo Show" on Newsmax.

"What a disgusting, racist bigot J.B. Pritzker is," said Cruz, suggesting he had slighted the Latino community during his attacks on Trump. "And listen, I don't want to get between J.B. Pritzker and the Domino's pizza line, but I'll tell you what I am willing to get between: him and his open doors for every human trafficker, every drug trafficker, every MS-13 and Tren de Aragua gang member."

Pritzker swifly hit back.

"And I would never want to get between Ted and a trip to Cancun when there’s an emergency in Texas," wrote Pritzker on X in response to a clip of the exchange — referencing the infamous incident when Cruz fled his state in the middle of a catastrophic deep freeze that killed hundreds of people.

Trump's threats to send in the National Guard to patrol Chicago, which follow his federal takeover of Washington, D.C., are ostensibly about the level of crime in the city, even though crime has fallen dramatically in Chicago and many of the states that sent troops to help Trump in D.C. have worse crime rates in their own population centers.
