We are in the final month of the season, and the Royals are desperately clinging to playoff hopes. As I write this, they stand 2.5 games back of a playoff spot with 24 left to play. They’re far from out of it, but as the Mariners and Red Sox have struggled, the Royals have failed to take advantage of the openings that have been left to them.
