SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Dr. Juan Córdova, the recently hired new superintendent for Sioux City’s public schools, has returned from his leave of absence.
A spokesperson for the Sioux City Community School District says Dr. Córdova’s leave of absence began on Friday, Aug. 22 , and he came back on Thursday, Aug. 28. The district said it could not comment on the reason for the absence, stating it was a personnel matter.
The leave in absence was approved on Aug. 22 after a closed session of the school board.
Córdova’s absence meant he was not present for the first day of school on Monday, Aug. 25. Associate Superintendent Angela Bemus stepped into the role of greeting students on the first day of school in the superintendent’s absence.
