Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott’s unexpected proposal to move a city trash and recycling facility from Sisson Street to Falls Road next to the Jones Falls is a threat to the ongoing transformation of the Jones Falls Valley into a truly special amenity. It appears that, once again, the mayor acceded to the wishes of a favored real estate developer without considering the consequences.
There are concerns about the proposal’s economic impact in addition to the obvious fears about moving the trash and recycling facility closer to the waterway. The city says the relocation of the facility, known as the Northwest Citizens’ Convenience Center, will require closing Falls Road between Mount Vernon Mill No. 1 and the 29th Street Bridge to avoid congestion from the car and truck traffic it generate
