ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A proposal to rezone land on FM 600 for a privately owned industrial park has been delayed after the Abilene Planning and Zoning Commission said the project doesn’t match the city’s long-term development plan.
The site is at the corner of West Lake Road and Nugent Road. Developers say an industrial park is needed to support the data center under construction in northwest Abilene and another planned for just outside the city limits to the northeast. They also cited the location’s proximity to the interstate and interest from regional and Fortune 100 companies.
The property is currently zoned for agricultural use. Changing it to light industrial would require amending Abilene’s Comprehensive Plan, a city development guide adopted two years ago.
