RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — Richland Library is rolling out a new initiative aimed at providing fresh, healthy food to families across the county.

The Eat Fresh Freely program will place community fridges at four library branches, where residents can access free, locally sourced produce — no questions asked. Organizers say the fridges are designed to be welcoming, stigma-free spaces for neighbors who need extra support.

“This initiative is about more than food. It is about dignity, wellness, and building stronger communities,” library officials said in announcing the program.

The fridges will be restocked weekly and available at Richland Library Northeast, St. Andrews, North Main and Eastover locations.
