Detectives are investigating a shooting near 1700 West Tonto Street that left two Phoenix officers and a suspect injured.

The Phoenix Police Department’s Special Assignment Unit was serving a search warrant about 11:35 a.m. Sept. 2 involving an ongoing investigation.

As members of SAU made announcements and began breaching the door, a man inside the apartment started firing multiple rounds at the officers, police said.

One officer reacted to the gunfire and fired his own weapon, striking the man, police said.

One officer was struck by gunfire and was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Another officer received injuries from the incident and was treated and later released from a hospital, according to a release.

Two men came out of the apartment and were detained.
