The Lane Regional Air Protection Agency (LRAPA) issued an air advisory for eastern Lane County, effective from Sept. 2 through 9 p.m. Sept. 4, due to smoke produced by the Emigrant Fire burning about 20 miles southeast of Oakridge.

Matt Sorensen, public affairs manager for LRAPA, said air advisories are issued when air quality, measured by the Air Quality Index or AQI, is expected to be unhealthy for sensitive groups or higher for 24 hours or longer. Sensitive groups include children, people with preexisting heart or lung conditions, pregnant individuals and seniors.

The Smoke Outlook , issued through the U.S. Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program, indicates that smoke from the Emigrant Fire and fires in California are impacting Oregon’s air quality.
